Brandon Bethke Running



Brandon now lives in Orange County, California and is a part of a professional training group with Charles Jock and Ryan Martin.  
For the past 2 and a half years Brandon lived and trained in Ann Arbor, Michigan with Nick Willis, Will Leer, Lee Emanuel, and Craig Huffer.  He has set personal bests in all of his distances during his tenure there.

Collegiate Bio and Accomplishments

Arizona State: Earned his first cross country All-America honor by finishing a program-record seventh at the 2009 NCAA Championships, adding to the national honor he earned on the outdoor track in the 5,000m run in 2009... won the Pac-10 title at 5,000m and earned All-America honors in the same event during his first season with the Sun Devils... led the nation with the top time in the 5,000m throughout the season with his school-record 13:27.79 run at the Mt. SAC Relays... 2009 XC: Earned his first All-America honor in cross country by finishing seventh overall, the best finish by an ASU male in program history... clocked in at 29:38.3 to become the first Sun Devil to run the 10,000m course in under 30 minutes... finished seventh in the NCAA West Region to earned all-region accolades and lead ASU to a fifth-place showing and just it's sixth national team appearance... finished second at the Pac-10 Championships, tying him with Fasil Bizuneh (2000) for the best finish by an ASU man in the Pac-10 meet... his finish propelled the team to third place overall... with his conference finish, he earned First Team All-Pac-10 honors... finished second at the Notre Dame Invitational to open the year and then took sixth place at the Pre-NCAA Meet... named the Pac-10 Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year... earned Academic All-Pac-10 Second Team honors... 2009 Outdoor: Led the Sun Devils on the track by earning his second career All-America honor and first with ASU after taking fourth nationally in the 5,000m run... finished third in the West Region after winning the Pac-10 title... set the school record and the nation's best time for the season with his run of 13:27.79 at the Mt. SAC Relays... that time ranked as the 15th-best for an American in 2009... named the Pac-10 Male Track Athlete of the Week for his performance... placed his name on the all-time ASU Top 10 lists in the 1500m as well by running 3:42.82 to finish third at the Sun Angel Track Classic... his metric mile time ranks as the fourth-best time in school history... finished seventh at the Pac-10 Championships in the 1500m to score in two events... closed out the year by finishing 15th at the USA Championships in the 5000m run... garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic honors... 2009 Indoor: Did not compete after transferring into the program... 2008 XC: Did not compete for ASU during the cross country season, but did run unattached in two races, winning both... won the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson before capturing the  Mesa Thundbird Invitational.

Wisconsin: Competed for the Badgers for two years... three-time Big Ten champion... won the outdoor 3,000m steeplechase in 2007... added the 3,000m and 5,000m crowns at the 2008 indoor meet... earned All-America honors at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships by finishing ninth in the 3,000m run... clocked a personal best time of 7:51.54 in the indoor 3,000m run to set the Wisconsin school record... named 2008 Big Ten Indoor Athlete of the Year... 2006 Big Ten Cross Country Newcomer of the Year... 2008 indoor regional athlete of the year... ran 3:59.85 in the indoor mile that year... helped UW to the 2007 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship.

High School: A 2005 graduate of El Toro High School (Lake Forest, Calif.)... lettered in cross country four times, track & field three times and soccer once... captained the cross country and track & field teams twice each... in cross country, won the 2004 California state title after winning the 2003 CIF Southern Section crown... selected as a 2005 high school All-American... four-time all-county and two-time all-CIF honoree... on the track, won the 1600m and 3200m runs at the 2004 CIF Southern Section meet... all-CIFSS in both events for two years... holds the school record in the 1600m (4:09.54) and 3200m (9:02.15) events.

Personal: Majoring in interdisciplinary studies... parents are Paul and Toni Bethke... has one brother: Jordan... father Paul and uncle Glenn both played baseball at Northern Arizona and brother Jordan currently plays soccer at California... born January 19, 1987, in Lake Forrest, Calif.... hobbies include surfing, guitar and playing any type of sport... full name is Brandon Cole Bethke.
